A small company where the work is visible

ICS is not big enough for anybody to disappear into it. If you fix something here, the customer knows your name, and so does the managing director.

Where ICS recruits

The company employs across three areas: field technicians who install and repair physical infrastructure, network and support engineers who keep customer systems running, and software engineers who build the platform and customer applications.

ICS also recruits skilled fibre technicians, software engineers and electricians from overseas under the Accredited Employer Work Visa settings, which is a route many New Zealand employers of this size do not offer.

Fibre Technician

New Zealand · The role we recruit for most often

Installing, maintaining and repairing fibre optic cable and associated equipment, working both independently and as part of a crew. We would rather hear from a good technician when we have nothing advertised than miss one because the timing was wrong, so the description below stays up whether or not a position is open today.

What the job involves

  • Install, splice, terminate and test fibre optic cable to industry standards
  • Carry out network maintenance, including troubleshooting and repair
  • Coordinate with project managers and engineers to bring work to completion
  • Complete documentation and reporting on installations and maintenance
  • Work to safety and quality standards on every job
  • Provide training and support to junior technicians
  • Keep current with developments in fibre optic technology

What we are looking for

  • Five or more years in the same field
  • Proven experience as a fibre technician in telecommunications
  • Understanding of fibre optic cabling standards and best practice
  • Experience with splicing, termination and testing equipment
  • Familiarity with fibre network design and installation technique
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting ability
  • Ability to work at heights and in various weather conditions
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • A valid driver licence and reliable transport
  • Relevant certifications and experience preferred; an FOA certificate helps but is not required

How to apply

Send a CV to careers@icsservices.nz, or use the contact form and select Careers.

If there is no advertised role that matches you but you work in fibre, networks or telecom software, write anyway. The company assembles teams per project rather than carrying a fixed payroll, so the list of open roles is not the whole picture.

Send us a CV

Tell us what you have actually built or fixed. That is more useful than a list of tools.
